Hi Lumen backers!
Summer is just around the corner and we're right on track. The Lumen team has been hard at work fine-tuning the Lumen device and preparing for the July and August shipping date. If you are unsure about your updated shipping date, free free to email us with your backer details at [email protected] and we'll let you know when you can expect your device to ship.
Shipping & Fulfilment Update
This month, we received the second round of devices from the production line and are currently inspecting and testing the devices before moving to the final version. The differences between the second version and the final version for mass production will primarily be in the interface and visual appearance. These testing rounds ensure that your Lumen device will operate as accurately and seamlessly as possible.
As we get closer to our shipping date, we want to extend a special thank you for your patience! As scheduled, we are on track for shipping to super early and early backers in July and August.

Hello Lumen’ers!
Spring is well on its way and so is Lumen’s development! It’s time for our monthly update.
First things first, let’s kick this off with the latest news about manufacturing, production and hitting our July shipping target. For those of you who are super early backers and early backers, we are still on track to begin shipping in July and then August, as per the updated shipping date.
We received the first round of samples from the production line, and are really pleased with the results and the first round of sample devices. After testing the devices, we sent feedback to the factory, modifications were implemented and we will be receiving the second batch of samples within the next two weeks. These sample units will again go through testing, and another round of modifications will be made before moving on to the final round.
This phase of perfecting the device will ensure that all of you have the best experience with the Lumen device when you receive them this July and August. We will share photos with you in the next campaign update of the second batch of devices.

In other news, our team is growing– and fast! As we continue the development of Lumen, we’re expanding our team to include more experienced professionals to help us build the best Lumen experience possible.
But at some point, things were getting a bit tight and we needed to find a new home. Last month we packed our bags, computers and lab equipment, and made our way over to our brand new office space. Check it out!

Happy New Years Lumen'ers!
For Lumen, 2019 kicked off with a bang. We hosted our first ever Facebook live event last month (If you missed it, you can watch it HERE), showcased Lumen for at CES, and our manufacturing timeline is on track. We're going to give you the full break down and more below, so let's dive in!
Lumen at CES 2019
Media Buzz, Food Tech & More
First off, for those of you who stopped by our booth at CES this year– thank you! It was wonderful to get to show off Lumen to some of our early backers and to meet you all in person.
Some of you may be asking, what is CES? CES stands for the Consumer Electronics Show and is considered to be the largest tech event worldwide and of the year. More than 180,000 industry professionals attended this year with over 4,500 companies exhibiting. Our team spent the week of January 7th in Las Vegas, NV and met with hundreds of journalists, innovators and investors from around the world. Due to the buzzing excitement around Lumen, the device was featured in over 30 publications, including, BBC News, Wired, Sky News, Engadget, Entrepreneur, The Spoon, and The Chicago Tribune, just to name a few.
Oh, and we were also honored to be named one of the top 20 products at CES by Best Reviews and best personal wellness tech. We also received the Innovation Tech Award 2019 by Indiegogo.
We had hundreds of people stop by our booth every day, and it was heartwarming to hear their personal stories and excitement on how they were looking for a solution just like Lumen to help them reach their goals.
Happy Chinese New Year
We reached our next milestone.
With the Chinese New Year now in effect, our team is proud to have met all our milestones to date. As we shared in an earlier update (here if you missed it), our scheduled manufacturing break has begun and our team is now shifting its focus to Lumen's packaging, travel case, and app.
Lumen's first mold iteration has been completed and we plan to complete a test run when the Chinese New Year comes to an end. If you have any questions regarding Lumen's updated timeline, please refer to the previous campaign update here, where more details are outlined.

Sneak Peek
Surprise, our first batch of packages are in!
Last week we received the first samples of Lumen's new package. As you know, when you receive your Lumen device, you'll also be getting a travel case, charging dock and cable for the full Lumen experience. And the packaging is where it all begins. We still have several design iterations and modifications to go before finalizing Lumen's packaging, and we'll continue to share with you our progress. Here's a sneak peek!
Design For Manufacturing Phase: Complete
According to the updated timeline, we're on track for July shipping.
According to the updated timeline, we’re on track for July shipping. As some of you remember from the updated timeline we shared last week, we’re scheduled to complete the design for manufacturing phase on December 20th, 2018. Our designers worked closely together with manufacturing designers to finalize the exact specs of the device and prepare it for its first product mold. We’ve concluded this phase and are now ready to kick-off work for the first round of mold iterations. This process needs to be extremely precise to ensure that each part fits together with exact precision and nothing clings to the mold itself after materials dry.

Daniel here! First, I’d like to start off by saying thank you for your ongoing support of Lumen. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to bring our vision to life.
As backers, you’ve been incredibly patient as we work tirelessly to get Lumen into your hands in 2019, and we don’t take that for granted. There have been some changes in our original manufacturing timeline and we’d like to loop you guys in.
Shipping Update
When you can expect to receive your Lumen
We know the big question on everyone's mind has been Lumen's shipping date, so let's get right to it. While making every attempt to stick to the original shipping date, we had to extend it to July 2019. This means February and March backers will be receiving their devices in July, and April and May backers in August. It’s a significant delay and we know it's disappointing news (for us too), we’re sorry.
The good news is, we stand by our promise of delivering you a stellar product, and Lumen will be worth the wait.

Manufacturing Update
What’s happening with Lumen’s manufacturing
Picking a supply partner was one of the most important decisions our team had to make. Primarily because we wanted to ensure there were no compromises made to Lumen's final production quality. This caused us to perform an in-depth due diligence process with each supplier which took one and a half months longer than we anticipated.
Chinese New Year
How the Chinese holiday impacts production
Our team's original timeline aimed to avoid overlapping with the Chinese New Year which takes place in February 2019. This is because the Chinese national holiday results in all manufacturing stopping for an astounding period of five to six weeks, a time when the factory workers travel across the country in order to celebrate with their families. However, our manufacturing will end up overlapping with the national holiday, extending our production timeline by an additional six weeks.
Let's Talk Molds
Why detail matters
Before manufacturing could begin, we had to decide which molds to use, silicon or steel. In one sentence, a mold is a hollowed-out block that is filled in with material and gives shape to different parts of the product. We initially decided to go with molds made from silicon, a modeling technology at its core, seeing as they're quicker to produce.
But when my co-founder Dror and I held the first samples in our hands, it didn't meet the production standard that we promised you. We were disappointed with the quality of the final look and feel of the device, and there were discrepancies between the samples we received.
Eventually, we decided to go with steel molds which take much longer to produce but ensure a significantly higher quality product with the promised premium look and feel. This also allows us to produce at a much higher scale. This was a difficult decision for us to make as we didn’t want to delay the shipping date any further but it means you’ll receive a Lumen device which meets your expectations– and then some.
Updated Manufacturing Timeline
We’re so thankful to have such a supportive community of backers. Without you, there wouldn’t even be a discussion about picking the best supplier and choosing the optimal mold materials. Together, we're making Lumen into the next generation of weight loss and fitness tech to help us all live healthier and more nutritious lives.
